BRICS Bank Challenges US Financial Dominance with Non-Conditional Loans
The New Development Bank (NDB), known as the BRICS bank, is accelerating infrastructure financing in developing nations without Western-style conditions. With $39 billion approved across 120 projects—including $4.8 billion for 20 active initiatives—the bank is prioritizing local currencies like the yuan, rupee, and ruble over the US dollar.
NDB President Dilma Rousseff frames this as a direct challenge to Western financial hegemony. 'Our loans come without political strings,' she asserts, contrasting BRICS' approach with what she describes as the conditional lending practices of US-led institutions. The strategy aims to erode dollar dominance by 2030 through trust-building in alternative financial systems.
